Go to subway sandwich ?
Pepperoni pizza sub. How about you ?
shareTurkey, provolone, onions, bellepeppers, banana peppers, pickles, sweet onion sauce, then toasted. I can't eat raw vegetables anymore.
shareThat sounds amazing
shareDoes toasting the sub really change the veggies that much? I wouldn't have thought so. Sounds like they must mess with your digestion. I'm not all that young. Is this normal when people age, they can't tolerate raw veggies?
shareIt does make a difference But no. I didn't want to mention it but I had my colon and most of my large intestine taken out back in December of 2014 and because of it I can't eat raw vegetables anymore. This includes salsa. If I do eat them I get a horrible stomach ache.
shareSorry to hear this. I knew a guy who was maybe in his early thirties who had similar surgery. We never talked about diet. He was a very interesting guy and maybe had an ulcer at an early age, I'm not sure.
As far as my own diet, I know I SHOULD eat more veggies and the less cooked, the better. But I'm 60 so whatever habits I have aren't likely to change much by now.
And I do like your choice of Subway veggies. I always get tomatoes, banana peppers and spinach, no matter what style of sub it is. Helps assuage my conscience that I'm not totally clueless about my food choices.
Believe it or not the thing I miss most is salad. I've liked salad since I was a kid and now I can't have it.
sharePlease don't punch me out as I hear that's your thing, but Subway is gross...
In New York you can't throw a Nerf ball without hitting an excellent Jewish or Italian deli
You should move here if you like delis so much Mister Man!
I do love delis very much. Nothing like a Ruben done just right . I love New York . Best vacation I ever had .
shareOh yes, a Reuben with a side of fries, cole slaw and a dill pickle can't be beat
shareYes. Sometimes I’ll get the slaw right on the sandwich. Love a little crunch. I might replace the fries with potato chips. Extra dill pickles !
shareOne time I requested onion rings instead of french fries and the waitress refused to accommodate my wishes!
I ate my Reuben crying that time, planning my vengeance...it was tasty and I tipped well
But she will get hers!
Subway is far from the best sandwich place, BUT if you find yourself looking to save money and lose a little weight, you can do a lot worse for yourself.
There's one across the street from where I work and I'll often get a foot long oven roasted chicken on wheat with all the veggies (except olives, ugh) and honey mustard. I'll have half for lunch and half for dinner. Pretty tasty and each half only has about 300 calories and it costs about $7.00 total so I end up getting two meals for less than the cost of one at any of the other (albeit better) sandwich places in the area.
Funny aside, the sandwich shop right next to that subway has an autographed photo from Jim Gaffigan which he inscribed "Subway Sucks!"
And yet there are Subway shops doing a brisk business in NYC. Along with more than a few Domino's Pizza locations!
Subway isn't horrible but it's hard to eat there after eating here:

(There's a Reuben in there with your name on it, Shoggie!)
I'm amazed that Subway, Domino's and Taco Bell can turn a buck in downstate New York
We have a million Jews, Italians and Mexicans doing those sorts of foods perfectly
Maybe in Wyoming or some far flung place, but NY?!?
I find it puzzling Tex and now you have me craving a Reuben😤!
Salami, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, green pepper, oil & vinegar
shareWhere I live and during this time of year there's more flies in Subway than people.
shareCold cur combo sub for me.
