Best aging by an actor in a film.

What is the best aging by one actor in a film? I mean, the makeup was done so well that it looked like the actor actually aged. I pick Vladislav Dvorzhetskiy who played Berton is Solyaris.

Boyhood doesn't count.

Reverse aging: Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy.

De Niro in Raging Bull

Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean in Giant

I've always avoided this because it's a Western. Is it worth watching?

reply

It's one of my favorite films, and I don't care much for Westerns. It's certainly not a Western in the traditional sense, because they get rich discovering oil, disrupting the traditional rancher way of life.

reply

If you're not a fan of Westerns then I guess it's worth watching. I can only stand Westerns every now and then.

Tilda Swinton in Suspiria (2018)
Movie was a meh, but dang, the aging make up was ridiculously good.

reply

Good choice.

Max Von Sydow in The Exorcist

Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine in Return of a Jedi. He was only 34 or 35 years old while filming it, but he looked much older.

reply

It was so cool how the timing worked out that without makeup he could play the younger Palpatine (which was the older McDiarmid) in the prequels.

I recently watched the Loudest Voice and the make up used on Russell Crowe to portray Roger Ailes was fantastic.

reply

I second "somesunnyday, with Max Von Sydow in The Exorcist.

But are we forgetting Dustin Hoffman in "Little Big Man"?

reply

Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button. It won the Oscar and it deserved it ;)

reply

That's terrible aging. When he was 7, it looked like he was 100.

(This is a joke)

reply

Wasn't that exactly the point??? To play with age and makeup??? When he is seven he is old, since he ages backwards it makes total sense ;)
