I've just seen one of the most visually impressive movies ever.

My friend is an animator and loaned me his copy without telling me anything about it other than "just watch it". The movie is called "The Deadly Invention" (1958). Highly impressive visuals for an old movie I've never heard of.

I found out that it's available on YouTube (unfortunately without any English subtitles). Here it is for reference: https://youtu.be/mjcEqJSpxAw

Given it was made in Czechoslovakia it does look pretty good and clear. Most films from that part of Europe have a poor quality and doom like feel and look to them.

Check out (no pun intended) this other Czech movie with great animation.

Jan Svankmajer's Alice, made in 1988.

I love Svankmajer. Otesanek is a crazy movie.

Haven't seen that one.

It has Svankmajer's usual stop motion but it's a messed up movie.
