Watching "Mary Poppins Returns"

Cool!!
shareIt's alright but a pretty shameless remake of the original film... I was actually surprised just how closely they followed the plot and even recreated individual sequences.
shareIt's okay tho'. Because the original is more than 50 years old.
shareTrue - but it’s also still widely seen by kids today as well as adults who enjoyed it when they were young. I just found it odd that the filmmakers stuck SO close to the pattern, with just minor tweaks here and there (Royal Doulton instead of chalk pictures/balloons instead of kites/a crazy relative in an upside down house instead of on the ceiling etc etc). It seemed awfully lazy, which for such a long-awaited and hyped sequel surprised me.
shareAt least it's better than if they totally butchered the movie trying too hard to make everything new.
Some people are just not gonna watch old movies. They look washed out and the sound is also, well, old. Audio recording tech has come a long way. Also in old movies, people speak in funny accent nobody does today.
When color movies became popular, there were lots of black and white movies being remade. Some of them are even considered THE definitive version today.
Afterall, the original version is still there if people want to watch it. It's not like this new version wiped the old one from existence.
It's lazy, probably, but clearly it had different market than classic movies. As long as the remade original is old enough, more than 50 years is ideal, I don't have any qualms with a lazy retake.
Yea, it was rather funny. Look at "the original."
