Just saw "Parasite" today.

I'm not spoiling anything, but I'll just say it's the best movie of the year so far.

South Korea's Oscar entry.

I can see it getting some nominations outside of foreign language film.

reply

I hope so. I haven't seen everything yet, but this year has been a dud so far.

reply

I agree this year has been pretty bad, but Parasite is a great film. And not just great compared to the movies this year, just great in general. I just checked IMDb and it's currently an 8.6 with 17,000+ votes. I can't think of another film this year (excluding the fanboys voting for Avengers) that has a score that high.

This one was on my most anticipated list along with:

The Lighthouse
Joker
Lucy in the Sky
Uncut Gems

But The Goldfinch and Motherless Brooklyn didn't impress me with their trailers.

We'll know more after TIFF.

reply

I need to see this one. It was the first Korean film to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes too.

reply

You won't be disappointed. It gets crazier as the movie goes on.

reply

I am hoping to catch "47 Meters Down: Uncaged."

reply

I’m such a loser that I thought you were talking about the 1982 horror creature feature about a giant parasite that goes around eating people.

reply

Old movies need to be watched too.

reply

I just watched it. The first 3/4 was really good. I thought there was some overkill (no pun intended) at the end and the overall message. I guess South Korea has poverty and class inequality like all countries.

reply

The ending was a little strange. It seemed like a fantasy to me.

8.5 on IMDb! Definitely a film to check out.

😎

reply

It was 8.6 a few days ago. I want names for who is lowering the score.

reply

Compiling them now.

‘Parasite’ Sets Foreign Language Record at Indie Box Office. I guess $380,000 is a lot for an foreign indy.

Should have been top 10 in North America but we all know the majority of filmgoers don't want to read subtitles.

reply

It should not be surprising. You are right.
