Biggest star of each era?

Who would you say was the biggest star male and female of each decade since the 1930s?

reply

Clarissa/Sabrina

I'm into things made in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

50s: Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe.

60s: Paul Newman, Julie Andrews

Think this is right.

40's: Bogart & Bacall
50's: Brando & Monroe
60's: Newman & Andrews
70's: Eastwood & Streisand
80's: Ford & J.Lee Curtis
90's: Cruise & Roberts
00's: Pitt & Jolie
10's: DiCaprio & Lawrence

This is tough to decide. There are so many stars. In 70's: Reynolds,Redford,Welch,Bardot..but I think Clint and Barbara earned top spot. 80's: Stallone and Schwarzie could easily top list. I pick Ford and Jamie Lee(mostly because of her parents). Even though,Kim Basinger or Cher(singer first) could top list.90's: Sharon Stone,Demi Moore and Julia are pretty even.in 50's, it could be Stewart,Dean or Brando. Also, big hon.mention to both Kath and Audrey Hepburn.

I like your list. I just remember the Taylor & Burton marriage/divorce/remarriage was still talked up as the scandal of the century into the 80s. They were huge. Even The Beatles took fame advice from them.

Are we just counting actors?

30s - Clark Gable. Shirley Temple
40s - Humphrey Bogart. Katherine Hepburn
50s - Marilyn Monroe. Frank Sinatra (pop culture: Elvis Presley)
60s - Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. (pop culture: The Beatles)
70s - Robert Redford. Barbara Streisand (pop culture - Farrah Fawcett, John Travolta)
80s - Eddie Murphy/Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep. (pop culture - Madonna, Michael Jackson)
90s - Sharon Stone. Michael Douglas (pop culture - Oprah Winfrey. Princess Diana)
00s - Tom Hanks. Julia Roberts (pop culture Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, Sean Combs, Steve Jobs)
10s - Jennifer Lawrence/Scarlett Johansson. Leonardo DiCaprio (pop culture Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West)
20s predictions - ??? A new decade is just 5 months away.

** Some choices were double because some were famous early in the decade (Eddie Murphy in the Beverly Hills Cop films) and others later (Tom Cruise got noticed with Risky Business but was the biggest thing in Hollywood after Top Gun)

reply

20s I believe would be The Rock.

reply

Yeah, he is having a moment now that could be even more on the rise. I don’t care for his movies much.

reply

Yeah I was mainly going for box office star. Apparently Betty Grable was the biggest star of the 1940´s men and women. Bogey is the most famous actor from that period, legacy wise but he still wasn´t the biggest box office star apparently.
