Anyone else not get the hype over Stranger Things?
I don’t get it
shareIts a solidly written show, with decent child actors who actually behave like real kids, good special effects and an interesting idea. It's not going to hold up in the decades to come, but it has wide generational appeal, and that's why it has so many fans right now.
shareSee I disagree on the acting and writing. The dialogue is painful and cliche.
shareKids are notoriously bad actors, these are better than a lot, but an excellent child actor is the exception, not the rule. As far as cliches, I agree, but again, kids say and do the same shit generation after generation. Children ARE cliches. I also think these type of character driven shows improve greatly as the viewer gets to know the characters, and the writers get a chance to flesh them out a bit. How much have you seen?
shareMe neither.
shareIts a nostalgia show. Its made as if it was made then. Thats why is you werent there, or dont appreciate how movies were made back then you wont like it. The kids, the stories, the tropes, the advertising its all very 80s. Its not just a show set in the 80s like a lot of people think.
shareI grew up in the 80s, I get all of the references but those do not make it a good show. The writing is just bad imo.
shareHow much have you seen?
share1. No it isnt. 2. It really isnt in the context of what I said. Its exactly what its suppose to be. You dont like it, fair enough. But it isnt bad writing.
shareTaste is subjective, you are allowed to think that it’s good writing just like I’m allowed to think the opposite.
shareNo, you’re allowed to like or dislike it. Saying it’s bad is a point of fact, which isn’t the case outside of your opinion.
shareThe quality of writing, like any art form, is not objectively measurable.
shareOh dear
shareI think he's trolling. Ive politely asked the OP twice how much of the series they have watched, and no reply. I'm guessing that's because he never actually gave it a chance.
shareIve notice a few of his threads take that route. It just comes across as baiting, rather than seeking an actual conversation. The first thing I ever saw him post was a thread that sounded very bitter towards women because he couldnt get laid. I dont wanna say incel because it gets way over used, but his post really did sound a bit like that.
shareUhm, you think the OP is the one who's trolling while this BigWorm claims that the quality of writing IS objectively measurable???
shareYes. If the quality of writing weren't objectively measurable, how could they ever give awards and recognition to writers?
shareThat's not objective! That's based on the OPINION of a committee or jury. It's not even unanimous most of the time. Don't people complain about the Oscar winners pretty much EVERY single time? These award competitions are not objective and shouldn't even claim they are.
shareYou're wrong,but ok.
shareExcept that I'm right and it's not even a matter of opinion!
shareHahaha, who are you to dictate what people are allowed to have opinions on? Thanks for letting me know the type of person I'm dealing with, so I'll be sure not to waste any more time with you.
shareWow, for a moment there I thought you were joking, so I joked in return.
You're a freaking hypocrite. You had the nerve to tell me I was "wrong" and you didn't even back it up.
Opinions of artistic performance are subjective and that's a fact. But just go ahead and list the objective criteria "good" writing has to meet.
#metoo
shareNever seen it.
shareI get the hype
The music, the 80s nostalgia, the scares and humor
Even the kid actors are pretty good
Great show imo, maybe it's just not your thing?
I'm only starting the 2nd season now -- but I tend to agree.
Before I ever saw an episode, I assumed there'd be Easter eggs from those old 80's movies -- but I also assumed there'd be an interesting new take as well. It doesnt have the latter in the episodes I've seen to date.
I think I got 4 episodes in and lost interest. So no, I don't get the type either.
