Just saw Midsommar

It had some serious flaws in the script, but also had some very intense and effective sequences.

In short, it was almost all style and no substance. It’s a shame because it could’ve been a great movie.

My issues with the script were mostly in the opening half, some terrible dialogue and weak character development, and a meandering storyline that really doesn’t take hold until the second act. The acting was mediocre in places and there were several really poorly written plot points that really took you out of the movie.

Is this anything like The Wicker Man?

reply

Pretty much exactly like The Wicker Man but with much more gore

reply

In that case...I'll just wait for the video...

reply

Honestly it was a pretty cool theatrical experience, I might even see it again

reply

I'll just go and see Reservoir Dogs instead.

Did it seem to drag at all? I see the run time is around 2 hours and 20 minutes which is longer than I think horror movies really need to be (with a few exceptions). I have plans to see it next week and am wondering if you feel this could be shorter.

reply

Yes 30 min too long

reply

I watched the Suspiria remake last night and felt like that was at least 30 minutes too long as well.

reply

I can’t believe they remade that, any good?

reply

Wasn't bad....pretty good atmosphere and great gore but way too long. Also came off as very artsy so if that's not your thing it might be a turnoff. Definitely prefer the original but if you think you'd enjoy a more graphic and less subtle adaptation, might be worthy checking out. It's streaming on Amazon prime now.

Also fair warning that during the climax I felt like I was on an acid trip...seriously messed up stuff lol

an 8 rating so far.
