Is The Sopranos really that good?

Goodfellas is one of my favorite movies but I just can’t see a television series coming anywhere close to that level of intensity and artistry. James Gandolfini is a bit of a caricature, I don’t know how seriously I could take him as a mob boss.

It really is that good. The Sopranos is one of the bets shows of all time and James Gandolfini is fantastic. It is a must see show for sure.

reply

It's not a movie, and it's not trying to be Goodfellas.

It's about a guy -- who happens to be in the mob -- and his family.

And I think your idea of a mob boss most likely comes from films rather than reality.

reply

So what do you think a real mob boss is like?

reply

Yes. Yes, it is. And I'm jealous that you get to watch it for the first time.

reply

I thought the first season was good, which is as far as I got with it. But then I'm not into gangster stuff, and you are.

If I were you, I'd certainly try The Sopranos.

There are pluses and minuses of both film and a TV series. One plus with a series is the writers and actors can knock themselves out with character development, and intensity can rise and fall over a longer period of time (as it is in life).

It was pretty good but Tony's wife and kids were unbearably awful characters and got too much screen time...God that family was a bunch of boring whiners

reply

Goodfellas sucked, and do did Sopranos. Movies about criminals are BS.

reply

when they're clearly about mobsters, why did you watch either?

reply

The same goes for you.

reply

Yes it is.
Love Goodfellas too.

reply

I agree
