Dubbed english movies

They suck. Imagine watching an actor like Sean Connery, Morgan Freeman, Sam Jackson, Sam Elliott etc. and its someone else's voice. It takes a lot away from the performance and the enjoyment of watching your favorite actors.

Yes they do! Subtitles should be used instead. I once saw Goldfinger in Quebec dubbed into French. Horrible!

We only dub kids films in my country.

Which country do you live in?

Sweden.

Excellent. I took a DNA Test from Ancestry.com, and discovered that the largest part of my DNA (33%) comes from Scandinavia.

Well, if you live in US it's not so weird, a large chunk of us moved over there back in the days :-)

reply

Yes indeed, and it was our gain.

I appreciate your country invited us in, it saved many people during the harsh and poor conditions over here.

You're welcome. It was a smart move on our part.

Glad you feel that way :-D

They're also doing that now over here in the Netherlands. But when I was a kid, Disney movies were the only ones that were dubbed. And Pippi Longstocking, which was just weird.

reply

I don't know if she was called that in dutch but Miss Prรผzelius (Lady who tries to put Pippi in an orphan house) was already dubbed in the swedish version, she was played by a german lady that didn't know swedish so she said her lines in german and it was translated to swedish later. Never realized it as a child but now it's kinda funny when you know.

reply

That's weird. I've seen that in Italian and German movies and shows, but only once in a Dutch movie. The main character in Eline Vere was entirely dubbed, because the actress was French. Absolutely horrible.

reply

I don't kow why they even hire someone like that, you would think it would be a requirement to know the language of the movie you are acting in, but apparently not. It must be weird as hell for the actors to try and have a dialogue like that. I don't know if they have like an interpreter standing behind the camera or something. Sounds very awkward.

reply

Depends on the quality of the dubbing. I have no idea what those actors really sound like so I'm not missing anything.

I love Fellini so much that I donโ€™t even read the subtitles when I watch his films. I know them so well and I learn a little Italian.

reply

I use subtitles
