Peter Weir
Can we expect anything new from him, or is he nearing retirement? His last movie the "The Way Back" in 2010.

shareHe made quite a few winners and was never boring
Weird that it's been so long!
He's mid 70s now...he could certainly direct again
Maybe he's just not getting anything that good anymore
I'm still holding out for another Master and Commander film but it's a long shot.
shareSo much potential there
Great stories...I wonder what happened?
I know there's loads of material there for future films. I read it cost ยฃ150M to make and it took only ยฃ93M at the box office. I doubt any studio would take a gamble on any of the other books, Maybe a TV series in future like the Hornblower one. ๐
shareI read a couple of them and they were very good if a bit dense in terms of sailing jargon (knots, leagues, mainsails...oy vey!)
Plenty of adventure though...a reboot would be very welcome!
Yep the jargon is tricky, especially with ye olde sailing ships. Apart from a mast, sail and deck most of it goes over my head but you soon get the gist of it. Agreed on a reboot or sequel. I wouldn't mind seeing another Mutiny on the Bounty even though it's been done to death. ๐
shareOh yeah!
The Hopkins/Gibson version was great...an island full of topless native girls๐makes me want to crash a boat!
I'd check out a remake for sure
You could say I'm borderline obsessed with the books/movie, so a movie, mini-series, whatever, would be most welcome. Like you said, there certainly isn't a lack of material. Here's a tweet from last year by Russell Crowe.

Hopefully something will come from his tweet, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
