Favorite utopias that are actually dystopias? (And vice versa)

I can't actually say I like any "utopias" because they are all creepy in some way or another. I do find places like "Pleasantville", Camazotz in Wrinkle of Time, and The Community in the Giver fascinating though.

A utopia is defined as a place of perfection and pure perfection would be dull and boring, therefore not perfect. There is no such thing as a utopia. Even the most wonderful of places have their flaws.

The wonderful land of Oz from the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz" is full of wonder and awe, but spending a certain amount of time there would drive me insane! Despite it's large size, it feels claustrophobic, probably due to the fact that it's all shot on a stage with painted walls.

I agree. No such thing as perfect.

The 'Planet Erf' oasis in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome is a sort of utopia surrounded by a dystopian wasteland

I gotta see that movie!

It's pretty great
Mel was perfect, the locations and sets were fantastic, the big chase a real winner and Tina Turner kicked ass

Kingston Falls seemed like an ideal place to me, Even if there were pests running around.
