... for adult males and females to live with their parents? In movies, when someone says "He/she still lives with his/her parents" everyone makes a disgusting face. It's a pretty common thing in the rest of the world. Hmm...
In many cases it says that the person is not making his/her way in the world and chooses to mooch off of his/her parents. Sometimes it's necessary for a person to rebuild his/her life for a period of months, but unfortunately there are a lot of 21st century adults who are still living like they did as kids.
Adult child living in their kid bedroom, showing up at family dining table for cooked meals, having laundry done by mom, not contributing to family expenses... Weird.
Adult child stepping into role as head of household, providing care for aging parents, paying household expenses, living in multi-generational home for family bonding and mutual support. Not weird.
I don't see the problem with a kid staying with their parents for an extra couple years as long as their saving money and pitching in with household work. Its not as easy anymore to get a job right out of high school that will pay for your apartment and bills. There was a discussion on another forum about this and someone did the math. Nowadays you would have to work over 90 hours a week at a minimum wage job to make it work, while back in the in their parents time, it was 50 hours a week. If your on your own at 18, part time college is out of the question which is a shame.
We think it's weird because [i]mature[/] adults get a job, and move out. Then many of them start families of their own.
Only the lazy ass ones still live with their parents.
Some people are just judgmental and don't know how to mind their own business. It is no one else's business who lives where and with who. If someone wants to live with their parents their entire life, it is none of my business or anyone else's. They aren't hurting anyone by living with their parents.
