Travel Channel Fires Andrew Zimmern

PC Culture is out of control. Talking about his new restaurant The Lucky Cricket, he said “I think I’m saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horses shit restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest”

In my opinion, he's totally right. Americanized Chinese Food is fucking horrible, its unhealthy and basically all the same. It's crazy nowadays that if you make the slightest insensitive comment, your fired.

reply

Even by modern 'sensitivity' standards this seems really stupid

Zimmern is funny and engaging, never seems to be a nasty sort and he is a food critic afterall...

Weird move by the Travel Channel!

They bumped his show to Saturday mornings a while back which I thought was odd, and then today I read they ceased filming both his shows. Hopefully another network picks him up.

reply

He'll get another gig
I like Zimmern, he seems like a good guy

reply

Kind of bitchy to diss all Chinese restaurants in the Midwest, but how the freakin hell is that politically incorrect???

reply

But he's right. It's all the same crap and is on par with fast food. My point is people need to lighten the fuck up.

reply

So you've been to every Chinese restaurant in the Midwest? He's promoting his own restaurant, of course he'll claim everyone else sucks. Who's to say his food isn't just as crap? It really is a rather bitchy thing to say, but offensive? No.

reply

Do you seriously think that the run of the mill Chinese joint is actually good cuisine? There's one in virtually every town/city and their basically all the same. Zimmern is trying to do something more authentic with his restaurant which I can respect.

I think Zimmerns comment was rather pompous, but did he deserve to get fired? No.

reply

So Zimmern's restaurant is the only decent Chinese restaurant? Get out of here. You don't need to diss your competitors to promote yourself. Does he work for Pepsi or Burger King something?

I think it's pretty clear I don't think he should've been fired either, I just think his comment was bitchy.

reply

I don't think he meant to diss anyone, he was just telling the truth. He even apologized, but apparently in this day and age apologies mean nothing if you've offended someone.

What he meant was that most Americanized Chinese restaurants all serve the same generic foods - much of which is frozen and comes from the same suppliers. There are 41,000 of them in this country. That's more than McDonalds, Burger King and KFC combined.

If you like the standard American Chinese food, that's fine. Zimmern is simply trying to do something more honest and authentic.

reply

I think he can do all that without talking shit about others. Tactics like that just don't appeal to me.

I don't think he needs to apologize, it just tells me he has a bitchy side.

reply

He is absolutely right. If you want legitimate Chinese food here in Toronto you have to go downtown to Chinatown. All the buffet type restaurants in the burbs are crap.

reply

I haven't been to Chinatown in so long. One of my favorite parts of Boston.

reply

If I’m honest, I’m super into the cashew chicken as well as crab rangoon.

reply

Nothing wrong with that
