The Cloverfield Paradox
Hereditary
12 Strong
Annihilation
A Quiet Place

I still need to see Papillon, which will most likely make the list.

Good one. In an interview, John Krasinski said there is tons of backstory on the creatures, so maybe a prequel or sequel is in the works.

eighth grade
the endless

those first four are perfect to me, more or less. i don't love the endless quite as much as those other ones, & could have selected 5 or 6 other films for that slot.
