Novelists who became film directors

Michael Crichton (a man of so many talents)
Alex Garland

I love both of these guys. Know of any more?

reply

Stephen King.

reply

I forgot about his one and only foray into directing. "We made you !!!!!" Changing to Maximum Overdrive immediately.

reply

Don't get how he can complain about other directors adapting his work after making that trash.

Maya Angelou also directed a movie, Down in the Delta.

reply

I didn't know that about Maya Angelou. I'm gonna seek it out.

reply

Clive Barker

reply

Oh yeah, Hellraiser is awesome and so is Nightbreed.

reply

Nightbreed is favourite of mine ๐Ÿ‘ He wrote Candyman too but I don't think he directed it.

reply

He didn't direct Candyman but it is awesome. He however did direct a previous adaptation of "The Forbidden" as a short under the original title from his source material in 1978.

reply

Agreed it's a good one too. Never knew that other stuff ๐Ÿ‘

reply

Stephen King directed the supremely silly and awesome Maximum Overdrive in 86
It was about an other-worldly force making all of our machines and vehicles attack us...in other words it was a beautiful mess (a guy gets shot to death by cola cans flying out of a soda machine lol)
It has since become clear that he was wasted the entire time of production but damn, that was a really fun, stupid movie
Loved it
Trailer is readily available online...King is very clearly higher than a hair metal band!

reply

Yes he was coked to tips of his hair on that one.

reply

Critics murdered that movie
I really think its silly good stuff๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

I like it

reply

Maximum Overdrive was decent, I never saw the remake 'Trucks (1997)' though. It's got a 3.9/10 rating.

reply

William Peter Blatty wrote The Exorcist and later directed a small number of films in the same genre...none very good sadly

reply

I've seen Excorcist III which he directed but none of his others.

reply

Norman Mailer directed four times but i saw only two of them...
Though Guys Dont Dance (87)
Wild 90 (68)
I had a hard time finishing these... Really bad stuff:(
