We're thinking of going away for a couple weeks in December and are deciding where to go right now. So far the candidates are Grenada, Dominica or Guadeloupe. Any advice? Particularly interested in small, low key islands with good snorkeling....I've kind of grown out of the nightlife scene, so some of the bigger islands don't really interest me.

Amazing beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, talk about snorkeling!
I swam with fish that were bigger than me! Kind of scary but super cool...i think they were Groupers!
The locals were very sweet and responded well to heavy tipping, there were heavily armed cops everywhere, sunblock is a must!

What area were you in? I was in Playa Del Carmen maybe 8 years ago and didn't like the vibe. I couldn't walk down the street without being offered blow. I don't think I'll be going back to Mexico until the Government gets the Cartel problem sorted out. Just last week suitcases were found full of body parts in Cancun.
The west coast was more enjoyable imo. I had a good time in Puerto Vallarta and have heard Huatulco is nice as well.

We did Riviera Maya and we stayed close to the resort areas
The cops there are heavily armed
Saw the amazing ancient city of Tulum (a major Mayan port fortress)
Ran into gigantic Iguanas, a super fast monkey and some scorpions in the forest!
Took a touristy picture with the 'native warrior guys' (they were probably in some local theatre group lol but whatever...jeez do i look ridiculously pale in that photo!)
The Yucatan is pretty magical
I will see it again some day
I've only ever been to Curaçao. Nice.
