I'd like to take a moment and...
give a BIG shout out to all first responders.
We only hear about them during emergencies but they do it everyday in many ways.
On Monday my area was hit with devestating flooding. 15 inches of rain within a 24 hr.period.
Most of it happened in a 6-8 hr period during drivetime.
Parts of the city still have standing water and some towns are completely covered.
Hundreds were stranded on the streets as the water rushed in and their cars stalled or started
being swept away. Hundreds had to spend the night at businesses because there was nowhere
else for them to go and nobody could get to them.
After all this happened only one person lost his life. Three people trapped in a car and got out
to try to get to safety. Two made it and one didn't. He was swept away. His body was found a long distance away in a field.
More rain coming tomorrow.
GF was coming home when this happened. The road washed away and she was trapped.
She was rescued by the firefighters and rescue workers and taken to safety.
She had to spend the night at a flooded hotel with many others. At least she was safe.
So nice to see people come together to help others.
People opening up there homes to strangers.
If only it didn't take something like this for it to happen.
Only 1 fatality can be attributed to all the people who rescued many, many people that night.
We don't always appreciate them until they're there helping us.
I want to thank any of you or somebody you may know who are out there doing this everyday.
Please share any stories you may have.
