Top 5 70s crime dramas

One of my favorite movie genres! In no particular order:

The French Connection
Charley Varrick
Dirty Harry
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
The Getaway

reply

Good picks, I'd add Serpico and The Seven-Ups.

reply

The Seven-Ups is that a spin off sequel to 2 The French Connection

reply

Sort of...
Philip D’antoni produced the FC and directed the Seven ups.
Roy scheider played cops in both films
Both films filmed in gritty early 70s NYC
Both soundtracks by Don Ellis
Both films had iconic car chases by stunt driver Bill Hickman , who also did the car chase for Bullitt.
The differences were - The FC was based on a true story about a shipment of heroin from France but the 7 ups was a fiction tale involving mob guys getting kidnapped.

Five films that have not yet been mentioned ...

The Godfather Part II
Chinatown
Klute
The Onion Field
Badlands

reply

Yeah, Klute is an early 70s classic!
I was trying to keep the films in the 70s, which is why I excluded period crime films like The Godfather(s) , Chinatown etc.
