Rock is the kind of music you listen to to be moved and vibe with. Rap is for when you're angry and cynical.

Immediate disregard for rap is pretty prejudicial. Kinda screams OLD PERSON

I'm sure you heard every rap song. Know one know 'em all. Also, rap is what old people call hip-hop.

Ok but what about the artists I mentioned in the rock category?

You are both right and wrong, because rap is not music; so bad taste, but not in music—just egregiously bad taste.

i have time for leonard cohen, & i certainly loved led zep as a teen. nothing else on your list excites me personally, but you are entitled to your preferences!

Rap is more like spoken word than music.

I don't necessarily agree about rap being for when you're angry and cynical. I do quite like this song and it always puts me in a good mood:

Lol. I just meant that rap has an energy to it that helps channel your frustration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_YTP1yZcM8

If you like rap and rock, have you tried Slightly Stoopid? They started as a punk and ska band, but evolved into adding hip hop, rock and roll and reggae elements. I could find many different types of examples of their songs, here are some of my favs:
