reply

Which operating system do you use?

reply

ooh I really don't know, the computer is years old, I'm using Windows, the Photoshop worked just fine, then a few days ago there was an error notice, didn't pay attention to it and now I can't turn any picture to black and white using the mouse, everything else works fine but not that option.

reply

Try IrfanView. It is a free photo viewer and editor that will to do exactly what you want. I've been using it for years and it's great.

reply

thanks but I really do need photoshop.

reply

See if the keyboard shortcut command will work: Shift+Ctrl+U

If not, something's gone pearshaped with your Photoshop. Probably nothing serious, but beyond what I can help you with.

reply

thank you, and yes definitely something is wrong. I have been using desaturate instead but not the same as grascale.

reply

Okay, try this:

"So the fastest way to go black and white without doubling the file size would be this: Shift+Cmd+Opt+N, Cmd+Backspace, Shift+Opt+C."

reply

Sorry, I don't know what cmd means, I hate to bother people, you don't have to answer if it's bothersome.

reply

Oh, it means the command button on your keyboard. Press it down, at the same time as the shift, option, and N keys.

reply

I'm using a pc lol, anyway I managed to open the menu and click on the option with the enter key and still didn't work, I guess the option just doesn't work.

reply

I know you're on a PC :). I had to Google the key commands for PCs, because I've always had Macs.

Your command key will be on either side of your space bar. Your option key is right next to the command key. Press the command, option, shift, and N keys down at the same time and see if that works.

reply

I think you mean the Ctrl button.

reply

Oops, yes, you're right.

reply

Hey, sorry, LETC. The real keyboard commands for a PC to convert to greyscale is: Ctrl + Alt + shift + N.

Give it a shot. It may well get your Photoshop to do what you want it to do.

reply

it didn't work but still, thank you so much for your help, I guess something happened to the program and I'll have to re-install it, it sucks but thanks anyway.

reply

Okay... But if you can't get Photoshop to work then try GIMP. GIMP does what Photoshop does but it is completely free to use.

What a terrible name for a product.

It's an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program.

Alt + Shift + Ctrl + B

That one?

Or you could make a new layer, set its blending mode to colour and fill with black. That's what I do and have an action set to do it. If you create a similar action just remember to add reset colours (d) before the fill :P
