So, men are hotter? That's sexist!

reply

That's the most ironic news I have ever seen, because I literally thought it was going to say the opposite of this.

Every woman I have ever lived with and known in my life, my mom, roommate, friends, ex, has always set the AC way too low for my liking. One set hers on 69 F!!

I am okay around 77 F. Every woman I know sets there's on 74,73,70, whatever. I used to get in arguments about them wanting the air too low and making the bill too high.

From my experience, it's the man who prefers a higher setting. I've never heard of a woman, in my life, saying the AC was "too cold."

reply

Wow I can't believe that's your experience. I'm a woman and am always freezing my ass off at work when the air con is on. Bring on menopause!

Now if we're talking natural chilly fall weather, then I understand. Often during fall, on a cool 50-60 (10-15 C) degrees out, I'll leave the door open and women will get cold.

But if we're talking specifically air conditioner, every woman I have ever known likes to keep it set very, very low.

I've never seen or heard of woman who prefers the AC set higher than the man she's with.

reply

Well you've heard of one now. Here I am.

reply

i find that incredible as well.
there are always exceptions, of course, but in general, in my work and home life, the conflict around a/c has almost always been that women find it too cold, and the men find it too warm

i personally despise heat, hate every moment of the summer, and would happily live somewhere it never got above 15c.

I had a debate with someone over using the terms high and low for A/C. He said that it should be low, referring to temperature. I said it should be high when referring to setting it to work harder, meaning to turn up the A/C means making it cooler inside.

reply

Women probably do feel cold more due to their thyroid function and then during menopause they will have difficulties controlling body temp. So extremely hot places will be unbearable. But they can still feel temperature in real terms.
It's a fact, not sexist.
It's just different for guys.
You're lucky!
