Sorry, SK. I hang my head in shame when I tell you that until now, I was unaware of who Danny Boyle is. Looking at his Filmography, I was surprised to see that I actually have seen two of his films!
Shallow Grave was quite good! Being a fan of a good thriller, I remember it being interesting. Interesting enough to see it again! An 8/10 from me on that one.
The Beach was the other one. That was ok. I only saw that one once. Oddly, I never thought much about watching it again.
It's odd for me because when I like a movie I will watch it many times after my first viewing. I guess The Beach just didn't do it for me because I have forgotten most of it.
I won't let that detour me though. Since I really like Shallow Grave, I will make it a point to check out some of these other films.
Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

"Looks like you have a nice road of movie watching ahead of you. Enjoy!!"
This is what I get from your weekly "What did you watch" threads.
I may not always post on those. I do check those out. I look at what everyone has been watching.
I have always thought that was what you are shooting for.
This is even better because I am discovering directors.
I like this! It may lead to growth on this site. Could we finally get on board and TALK about movies on the INDIVIDUAL BOARDS?

reply

You are right! All of us benefit from the thread. If you notice someone with similar taste as you you can get recommendations from them and so on.

Would you beleive me if i told you that I did post on some individual film boards but NEVER even looked at ANY other board than GD.

Not enough interest, not enough time.

Loved Slumdog. That woman was/is so beautiful (a shallow comment, but still). And it was such a visceral, fast-moving story w/o any CGI gimmickry.
Trainspotting I have difficulty with. The accents and the subject matter make it hard for me to relax and enjoy.
Liked 28 days later, very tense. The Beach was interesting.
Did Boyle do Terminator 2? If so, he did a really good job with it. Better than 7.5, and I'm not an Arnold / Action fan, but some things are just fun to watch (like the first two Mad Max films).

reply

you need subtitles for Trainspotting for sure.

reply

Hi snepts,

No, it's not Terminator 2 (which is, indeed, an action masterpiece)

It's how they call Trainspotting 2 (T2).

I like your input on each film you saw.

Thanks

PS. I might send you an email later on.

Ah, I probably should have figured that out. I sorta figured Term 2 wasn't right, but since it's such a cool flick and it came to mind, I thought I'd mention it. I knew I was being lazy by not checking who the director of Term2 was, but I just wanted to bring it up.

Two of the lesser ones IMO.

You should put the guy on your radar.

i haven't seen his other films. a bit odd, perhaps, given how much i genuinely like every film of his that i have seen. i'm definitely going to catch t2 at some point, but the rest of them just don't arouse my curiosity much, and i suspect i'll always have a film i'd rather watch before any of those.

while it wasn't the film i gave the highest rating, i probably like going back to sunshine the most. like a lot of people, i thought the crispy monster bit at the end seemed a bit out of step with the rest of the film, but i still think it's got so many great, compelling qualities.

127 hours is just about a perfect film to me. a bit too wrenching to ever watch casually, but i think that sequence at the end with the sigor ros music is truly great, note perfect, magnificent without getting treacly about it.
