Japanese ghost movies...

I usually don't find movies about ghosts scary, but the Japanese manage to make them genuinely frightening [Ringu, Ju-on]. I'm not sure what their magical ingredient is, but it works.

Ghost movies from all other countries just can't seem to do it as well. People raved about "The Conjuring" back when it came out but I thought it was boring.

I think its how the central creatures are presented, they worked for the most part in their American remakes as well. They are not simply ghost, they kill with relative ease and they are for the most part inescapable. They are also human looking but move in somewhat inhuman ways. Not all Japanese ghost characters work as well as these two you mentioned, but those two work very well.

Korea makes some good ghost movies.
At least they did at one time. :(

Haven't seen any Korean ones, but I've heard creepy ghost stories from over there.

Check out Pulse (Kairo). One of the best. Not recommended if you're feeling down though.

One day, I will.
