Films that began a hot streak

And one that ended it.

Actors, directors, writers, producers

Christian Bale started a seriously hot streak with American Psycho, and I'd say it ended when he played John Connor in Terminator Salvation, I didn't like that one bit.

Rob Reiner ‡

Spinal Tap
The Sure Thing
Stand By Me
The Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally
Misery
A Few Good Men

reply

Damn right. What a run

reply

It certainly was πŸ‘

reply

The Sure Thing is one of my favorite comedies of all time.

reply

80s classic. πŸ‘

reply

Great one right there!
I didnt enjoy Sure Thing or Harry/Sally but they weren't meant for me...all good to great movies DB

reply

Thanks mate πŸ‘

Bette Davis- Jezebel -1938

Started a 30 film hot streak.
Not all the films we're classics but all were worthwhile.

reply

I've seen a few, but I have to investigate further, 30 is serious business

reply

It is serious business and shouldn't be taken lightly!

I don't think you can find a real clunker in the bunch.
This is my opinion obviously.
How do you investigate?

reply

I go through the filmography and watch all that I haven't seen.

reply

That's quite a task.
I hope you agree.

How are you doing btw?
Haven't seen you in awhile.

reply

I took a break. Doing pretty well. I've just been in a writing mood today. Mostly poems but thought I'd see what was going on here. I thought about responding to your "found a friend" post. You're the MC user I'd most want to hang out with in real life.

reply

That's nice to hear.

The same old crap happening here.
Either way you were missed.

reply

Thanks. I'm at an interesting point in my life. Turmoil and joy and creative exuberance all at once. It's definitely a time I'm trying to take in as much as I can, and waste as little energy unnecessarily as possible. Movie Chat has been a good thing for me, but when it's not good I can definitely find real things that are more worth my time. I'll only be 30 for one year, eh?

reply

Life is all about changes and how you adapt.
You get thrown all sorts of pitches.
Some you hit some you miss.

MC has been here for me during some dark times and I appreciate it and the people here.
Sometimes it's had the opposite reaction but most of the time it can be wonderful.

Yep, only 30 once. Then 31 and so on.
Appreciate each and every day you can.
It won't last forever.

reply

The Tom Hanks and meg Ryan duo.

Joe versus the volcano
Sleepless in Seattle
You’ve got mail
Ithaca

Have no idea why this is the first thing that popped up in my head

reply

All those movies are well made, but Joe Versus the Volcano is on another level.

reply

hitchcock

saboteur
shadow of a doubt
lifeboat
spellbound
notorious
the paradine case
rope

reply

One could probably extend that list to the end of his career. Once he was on fire it never went out.

reply

hr had a couple of stinkers with under capricorn and stage fright and then picked it up again.

reply

That's fair, but Strangers on a Train through Frenzy are all pretty great. We'll say 2 streaks.

reply

I Confess and Torn Curtain are a bit on the weak side.

reply

I'm a sucker for his movies. A weak Hitch movie would be the crown jewel of most other people's career. He was on another level. Only Kubrick can match the level of quality, but he wasn't as prolific.

reply

Topaz isn't what you would call a bad film, but since we're talking about Hitchcock it's considered a minor entry.

reply

agreed

reply

Had to add Kubrick

The Killing through the Shining are the cream of the crop, but even Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut are pretty damn great.
