Character in a movie you're suppose to like but you instead despised

Nothing infuriated me more than when "Rear Window" ended and Jefferies, the single smuggest, coldest, rudest, most unpleasant character James Stewart ever played -- and that's say something -- was still alive. Today, a character like Jefferies would not only have died but his death probably would have qualified as the biggest crowd pleasing moment of the entire flick. People would be exiting the theater afterwards with sentiments like "Well, everyone died, but at least Jefferies died the worst." And the response would be along the lines of: "I was hoping though his fate was something a little more excruciating than being set ablaze with a flame thrower. And couldn't the camera have lingered on his burning body a little while longer? Ah well ..."

Fox Mulder in The X Files tv series. He was supposed to be the noble, tortured hero but I thought he was a whiny, self-absorbed wimp. He treated Scully like crap half of the time and was a loose canon for the other half of the time.

I just got done with Requiem (2018) on Netflix and Matilda was really hard to like even though the character experienced some terrible things.
