When the characters can't agree on pronunciation

Does this drive anyone else crazy? The prime example that comes to mind is Han Solo. He was always Han, like Hahn with a long A, and then as soon as Lando shows up and starts saying Han, like Hand with a short A, it's infectious and everyone starts saying it, but not consistently. Wouldn't one of his oldest buddies know how to say his name? When he introduces himself, I think we can trust Han knows how to say his own name. This is madness! I know there are other movies where this is a problem, but can't think of them due to my fury over how bad of a friend Lando is, on so many levels. What other movies have pronunciation discrepancies, names or otherwise?

Peter Dinklage says 'Zanza' instead of 'Sansa' a few times in Game of Thrones...that always annoys me for some reason

reply

Yeah I remember that, I am so far behind on that show though. Other things took over. I think I'll wait until it's done to binge it to the end.

The worst one for me is how people say Arya. Like, I get that most people are British, but there is an R there. Originally most everyone was saying Aria, because you know, that's a cool name. Then it's like they all realized, oh yeah, we're British, even though I was filmed saying Aria, now it seems more fashionable to say Aaayahh. Wouldn't care either way if it was just consistent, and even Arya herself changed how she said her own name over the course of the first few seasons. AGGGHHHGHHHHHHHHHH

Lol so true

I love that show but they need to have a meeting about name pronunciations...

'Ahhyahh' sounds stupid😂

One of the last things I posted to Imdb was about this exact thing and like 40 different users came after me and insisted that there was only one pronunciation ever used and I was trying to destroy their beloved show by casting aspersions. It's a good show, but it's not perfect. They acted like having one minor issue with something like this meant I hated the show and wasn't even allowed to continue discussing it. Throners are weeaahhd.

That is weird!
Sorry i missed it...i would have thrown in on your side

Yes, I hate that! You'd think something like that would come up during script readings. The worst is when a character repeats what another character says and pronounces it differently.

reply

Yeah that's the worst. Got any fresh examples?

The Star Wars original movies are also full of some people saying "Lee-ya" and "Lay-ya".

reply

Yes I hate that. It's like only one or two guys, and it seems like all the other people should correct them and they never do. Come to think of it, it plays out pretty much the same every time I watch it. Strange.

For decades I thought his name was Hanz Olo... 😂

That made me laugh. I'm never going to not hear it 😆

Many people call's her Laura, but in fact her name is Lara

reply

That bugs me, but do they say it wrong in the games or movies, or is it just viewers and players?

reply

Mostly the players and viewers
