Most authentic movies set in the 70s

What films have you seen that best depicted the 1970s in look and style? Made post 1980s

My first choice would be Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm (1997) All the anachronisms were spot on : toe socks, ponchos, Frank Zappa on the stereo and Nixon on the TV!

reply

The Lovely Bones (2009) has a very believable 70's atmosphere.

reply

Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
New Waterford Girl (1999)
Almost Famous (2000)
C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
Zodiac (2007)

reply

Never saw Waterford or CRAZY
Thx for yr responses!

reply

Christine (2016)

Not the car movie, but the true story of Florida TV anchor Christine Chubbicks on air suicide
The 1974 recreation is perfect!

reply

good call.
have you ever seen 'kate plays christine?' i actually liked that take on the chubbicks story a bit more.

reply

Thx ,I wasn’t aware of that one.
Strange that both Christines were released the same year 2016

reply

The nice guys (2016)

reply

I completely agree that The Ice Storm is the top choice

Boogie Nights, Dazed and Confused, Milk, C.R.A.Z.Y, Inherent Vice

reply

Yup
I think we hit all the big ones

Apollo 13 (1995) It captures that era with the architecture, furnishings and decorative items in the family's home, plus the clothing, which were actually 1960s leftovers (the event took place in April 1970 when the decade had barely started).
