Oh and welcome😊

Interesting, not much of an international presents then?

Thanks, we'll see how it goes.

That is both sorta good and bad from my point of view. Good because it lowers the number of international film discussions that I likely have not seen and couldn't really comment on, or would not have interest in. Bad because it also limits some diversity of thought.

reply

We are working on this! Where are you from????

reply

Well it is Easter and Sunday, neither of which are the most robust of discussion days. There is a good group here, but obviously not as large as the old IMDB boards. Everyone was scattered after those closed. This is the best of the ones I have been on that came from those boards.

reply

True, it is hard to imagine anything will be able to capture what Imdb did.

How is the content here? I looked through a recent few posts did not get a good feeling about discussions here. imdb usually had a large quantity of 'real' movie discussions, is it similar here? or is there more nonsense than depth?

reply

The general boards really are a bit of everything. The more specified boards for categories or individual films are not as highly trafficked right now as maybe you'd prefer, but more solid contributers is all that's needed to encourage growth. This site isn't that old in the grand scheme and it took years for imdb to be the bustling beehive it became. I will say there is less content here, but the quality of the content is more likely to be meaningful than imdb was at the end. Also, less users mean more familiarity and you'll get to know others who jive with your viewpoints. The general boards can be silly at times so I would recommend poking around everywhere. Don't judge the whole site by the GBs, but it does seem to be one of the more highly trafficked boards.

reply

General discussion's are bound to be a little directionless. Going off the "latest posts' board it appears you are right that they attract the most attention and are a bit silly.

reply

I was addicted to IMDB. I appreciated the fact that I could get instant learned gratification when researching a film(however there were a pantload of racists). I agree that this is the best alternative sight I have discovered. And I will say, recently I opened a specific movie thread and was thrilled to discover an intelligent, respectful exchamge. I actually got the answers to my questions just like with IMDB. Deja vu baby.

Welcome!

Thanks.

Hmm weird, I just ran into a strange problem in which my replies were not working. After I hit the add reply option the reply would just vanish. Anyone experience that before?

reply

There have been times when I wished my post had vanished but no.

Lol, we have all had those in the past.

There are plenty of good discussions here, as the site grows I imagine it will continue expand the discussions. The weak point is probably TV shows as they arn't discussed a lot overall compared to the movies. But that is not so much a bad thing. I use TvTime to keep track of shows and the discussions on there are so extreme fan biased that there is little point in posting there, very active but 95% drooling over the shows and very little critical observation. Also we could do with less of the political figures and discussions of them, but I think that is true everywhere.

This is a good site :)

The content is pretty bad, especially on the general boards. This place over-values quantity over quality. “Hey! I didn’t actually say anything, but I said a lot of it!” There are a few excellent writers here, but they are not generally appreciated more than the pedestrian posters. People here are celebrated, usually, for reaching a milestone quantity of posts, and not for reachabling a zenith of excellence. It’s rather sad.

reply

Respectfully disagree Kane
I find most of the content to be lovely here and i sense that WE are only growing stronger
We are always chatting funny stuff and movie talk...i think we have all done a lot of good writing and chatting here...

The 'milestone' thing is just a friendly shout out to the other posters who help keep the lights on and the traffic flowing

You have claimed to be an accomplished writer and journalist more than a few times dear Kane...i take you at your word and hope im not sounding fresh

Consider this a very polite reminder that creating content and adding ideas to other poster's threads is far more work than being a constant critic

I hope this Easter Sunday finds you well
I know of your beliefs and i quite admire a fellow of faith
Be well and best wishes

I deleted a post because it wasn't very positive, and I'm trying to be good.

I disagree with R_Kane. The content on this site is great and gets better all the time. Also there is plenty of archived imdb stuff so it's not lacking in film discussion in any way.

It is the only film discussion site worth your time. Yes, most are Americans, but users are joining all the time, and if you want international film discussion, make your presence known and contribute positive discussion and more people from the international community will join. Welcome!

reply

Thanks for the reply. I am already kind of impressed with the quantity of responses I have gotten here so far, compared to the other "latest topics" I was not expecting this number of replies this fast. That in itself is somewhat encouraging.

reply

And I'm at work! On my breaks I try to pop in, and I think there are others like me. Well, back to the grind.

reply

There are much fewer members here than compared with IMDb, but that's changing as more people find out about the site and new shows and movies are airing. The old threads from IMDb are largely archived here and still capable of being posted within by members of Movie Chat. Given time I think you'll see this site become a hotbed of discussion of cinema and television with all the related topics which spring to mind.

Post away and see how it all takes for you, current content and traffic is the only thing missing for the moment. Everyone who contributes makes the site that little bit better in the long run.

Welcome aboard Iramet!

reply

Welcome Iramet!

This site is the best

The others already gave you solid information about our little home...
Stick around and contribute if you like
You will meet tons of silly folks on the General Discussion board and frankly, we could use some help with the traffic on specific film and TV show boards

Its all good fun with the crowd here!
Enjoy and im damned glad to meet 'ya:)

reply
