Carousel

So I recently turned 30, and I know I was supposed to attend the fiery ritual of Carousel, but long story short, I decided to run, and now I've got this Sandman after me. FML

reply

Happy belated birthday. I don't get the Carousel thing.

reply

See Logan's Run. Very bizarre and enjoyable.

reply

Yup, Logans Run
A cheesy sci-fi classic

Damn i love that movie!

reply

I did really turn 30 a couple months ago, and I've been watching it a lot in my aged honor. Interesting I became interested (obsessed) with it only as I approached the age so relevant to the story.

reply

And now you will always remember it ;)

reply

Very cheesy, but enjoyable in its day. I don't think I could stand to watch it today.

:-)

reply

Ha!!
I cant here the word 'carousel' without thinking of that crazy film
Good stuff...KEEP RUNNING!!

reply

Eh, marry an unemployed carny and everything will be fine!

Eventually.

Happy birthday, Pete! Now nobody will trust you. Of course, I never did trust you.

Btw, I'm surprised Sandman hasn't responded yet.

:-)

reply

It is one of our own that must die tonight at carousel

reply

Happy belated Birthday Pete! Love life through experiences, and let any troubles of vanity pass by, a friend's respect always at your side, surrounded by others, their company ever pleasing to the eye.

reply

I’m curious how you know when his birthday is?

reply

Pete mentions it himself further up this thread. He also mentioned it to me in an earlier exchange when he first came on board.

reply

Thank you.

reply

No problem.

Your exchange with sidveryvic finally convinced me to watch The 13th Warrior. I'm been meaning to give it a go for some time now since I enjoy Michael Crichton's works. Mind if I share my thoughts on the film with you in the near future? I'm a mild history buff.

Much of my enthusiasm for 13th Warrior is based on two things: (1) my interest in and passion for my Norse heritage (I am mostly German/Bavarian, but the Danes came raping and pillaging in the time that my ancestors were in the lands of the movie, so the Viking angle draws me, just as it does to the TV show of the same name), and (2) the Berserkers, from whom we derive the English phrase, “to go berserk,” were definitely Germans, who, dressed in bear skins, believed that they transformed into bears (Beorn, as in Vikings and The Hobbit) and could shred and eviscerate their enemies. I am a student of lycanthropy, shapeshiting and skinwalking. This movie interests me greatly. I hope that you enjoy it.

Northern European heritage is intriguing, lots of exploring and getting around, but very little of their own accounts.

I am a lot of different backgrounds, Vikings included. My ancestors fought each other in wars and conflicts, settling down raising families once the dust cleared, interestingly. I never finished the Beowulf epic (the book), getting used to ancient Anglo-Saxon translation to modern English is quite an adjustment. Old English is very Germanic indeed.

I enjoy reading about the various cultures in general. I believe there was something recent in the news where Viking graves were discovered with blankets bearing Arabic or Islamic embroidery. Fascinating, since Vikings are thought to mostly prefer cremation. The 13th Warrior is sure to excite historical curiosity.
