Do movie fans know this

I think most of movie fans are completely oblivious to the fact that celebrities are highly competitive people who achieved their celebrity or success by being competitive.Every step they take is in line with their celebrity. For example,DiCaprio wouldn't be a climate change advocate if it effects his movie career.
Celebrities are not going out on a limb in terms of these social awareness campaigns..they have other powerful people backing them to do these things. Its pretty hard for a celebrity to champion a cause which is opposed by almost all business magnets.
Even all those articles about actors being praised for their work or how hard it was to shoot revenant or how Dicaprio broke his hands on glass while filming Django Unchained are part of marketing campaign by actor and studios to get him awards recognition ? All those articles about its time to give him the overdue oscar are part of marketing campaign by his team to get him the oscar.
How do people miss that ? How do they buy into the whole marketing push without seeing through the b.s ? How do we fall for that ?

reply

The entire film industry was built on the concept of suspension of disbelief and the entire "escaping reality" so yeah, we'd fall for their heroics and fall in love with the people we see on screen even though we know it's the work of a publicist. But is giving into their b.s. really that bad?

reply

i dont think most people differentiate the fake and real..there is this concept of american dream that is being sold to people from different parts of the world through moviestars and movies..there is that and there is reality..i am okay with escaping reality in the theater but if the moviestars whole image is part of that escaping reality then in a way were are creating monsters like kevin spacey or creating false idols like Leonardo dicaprio..who is a source of inspiration for lot of young people when infact his whole image is carefully constructed by publicists...what would happen when your idol turns out to be a fake lucky enough to be at the right place in the right time.

reply

correct. False idols is completely toxic that's why they tell you never to meet your heroes. But, these actors are, albeit falsely, inspiring generations of children and upwards to work hard to achieve their goals. And it may be fake, but it works.

The only example i know is when the final chapter was released,Milla was aware about any comments that the hardcore fans made throught the franchise and even thanked them for their opinions even though many were negative.

reply

Mila is a low hanging fruit in the sense she doesnt really have much pull in hollywood. I was referring to top guys like angelina jolie/Brad pitt/George clooney/Dicaprio/Damon..those guys..when you have a movie like J.edgar getting golden globe nominations just because its a serious movie with clint eastwood and dicaprio..i smell some sort of deal making going on

reply

Right,if she didn't won an oscar,then she doesn't count...anyway,back to your topic : that's what i call "hollywood corporation"
