I don't go to a gym, but I do work out...
I have a weights room at home... Power rack, bench and pull-up bar....
I lift 3 times a week, mostly the big lifts, squats, deadlifts, overhead press, bench press and pullups/chinups... Obviously not all of those in the same day, as I lift heavy (built up to it gradually). I did Starting Strength in the begining to get the basics down, it's a basic strength training programme. Worth checking out.
It's surprising how quickly and how strong you can become just doing the basic big lifts, starting with low weights and increasing the weight gradually.
No music. I wear a T-shit and shorts, or sweatpants... I work out alone, but have the safety bars set so that I don't injure myself doing the bench press or other lifts.
I should probably get some music or something for when I'm resting between sets... I like the silence when I lift, so would probably end up pausing it regularly.
I go for long walks every day. Helps a lot. No real cadio apart from that as I'm still lifing intensely. I'll probably do more cardio in a few months. Thinking of getting a rowing machine for when the weather is bad and to use a bike when the weather is good. Just walking & lifting for now.
I used to play tennis and squash until i injured my wrist a few years ago.
