Should Prince Harry invite Barack Obama to his wedding...

...even if he doesn't invite US President Donald Trump?

I think he should be able to. Just have the UK government consider Obama as a friend of Prince Harry (which he is) rather than as a diplomat - Obama's presence in the wedding wouldn't be a "state visit".

Who cares😎

The UK government (Parliament and Prime Minister) fears snubbing the current US President if he isn't invited.

I remember when Obama (a guy i have no beef with) snubbed our friends in England by returning a bust of Churchill that had been in the big office for ages
I didnt think that was a very classy move on my former President's part
The fate of the US and England will forever be joined...it annoyed me that Obama acted that way
The Prince should invite Trump instead...Trump seems more fun if a bit crude

reply

I don't think that was a snub...at least that's how I interpreted it. Obama was just returning something to its rightful owner. But I could see how it could be viewed as a snub.

I doubt Trump would be more fun as the party...he seems too sensitive.

You may be right on your first point, it just seems to me that the 'yanks' and 'brits' need to remain great friends
If i were Prez (God help us) i would have kept the bust here and lent them something great...an artifact of war or something historical to keep the good feelings going
As for Trump perhaps youre right again...he might be the prickly and self absorbed type
But Obama always seemed too scripted and in love with himself to be a fun guy
I figure Trump would loosen up and be fun after a bottle of wine...but then he might get all 'grabby' which isnt cool either
You know what? The Prince should keep them both off of his list

reply

Yeah, perhaps it's for the best to not invite either president.

reply

Yup!
Are you British by the way?
Just curious...you dont have to be very specific

reply

Nope, I'm American but I'm fascinated by politics and matters of state of different countries.

reply

Cool...im a New Yorker
Thank you Alien!
I love history ( but avoid politics usually) and im a big fan of those crazy and wonderful Brits
The diplomacy stuff never fails to intrigue me
I read an awesome book called 'Franklin and Winston: an intimate portrait of an epic friendship' about a year ago...quite a great story

reply

I doubt Obama is really a personal friend of his, inviting him would seem more like a statement. Harry is a nobody, there's no reason for him to invite the president of the US.

reply

As part of the Commonwealth, Canada will be well represented at this event (not that I care)

reply

He will invite Obama. Harry brought him to the Invictus games.

Trump is controversial to the point where that is going to happen. Meaning he will be excluded from such foreign ceremonies and functions. And yes there is no reason to exclude Obama as he is just a private citizen at this point in his life. It would not even matter if he used the opportunity to talk up his wife as a future Presidential candidate.

reply

I think that will be the case. I agree.

reply

Why would Obama qualify as a state visit? He doesn't hold any office.

reply

I actually agree. But I think that the UK government would still have reason to worry about snubbing Trump.

reply

I wouldn't, but then who cares?
