These forums are not well designed; there are far better examples

Why does this forum mimic IMDB's old forums, right down to the post signatures that look like part of the posts (I'm annoyed every time I accidentally read someone's signature for the 10th+ time)? There are several great forum software options that have more featues and are more familiar so why use this?

Though my loyalty remains here due to the preservation of all the old Internet Movie Database posts, at least all which were able to be saved, couldn't we at LEAST assemble EVERYTHING onto a site that's EVEN AS GOOD as the old IMdB? At least there, movie pages listed cast credits and everything on the same page, you didn't have to go to one page to post comments and another to see who was in the movie and what else they were in!

Also, I am posting on this thread at random because after scrolling through several pages it's the closest to the question I wanted to ask. Is there NO WAY to search these boards? How do you EVER KNOW what's been discussed before if you can't find it?* How do you EVER find it AGAIN even if you KNOW it's there?

Whoever is the best site designer needs to get together with whoever has the most IMdB material, and make ONE BIG GIANT SITE we can ALL enjoy instead of having to hop around several places! And make sure some thieving bastard doesn't buy it out and DESTROY IT like they do with EVERYTHING GOOD in this WORLD! Thank you and good day.

*I want to say something rude and nasty about Jeff Bezos and don't know where best to do so.

Hey you, nice to see you’re still here. I remember you from the old “what does your name mean” thread when MC first opened.

I agree that there are some improvements that need to happen, and search is a biggie. Until then, you can use google. Just type in what you are looking for followed by site:moviechat.org, like this

justice league site:moviechat.org

Thanks for letting me know that.

Good to still be seeing you here, CoriSCapnSkip (I also remember your posts from the days of MC's launch back in February).

I believe this site was designed this way so as to not impinge on IMDb's database. Unlike the old IMDb posts, which are no longer a part of IMDb, database info such as detailed cast credits is still an active part of IMDb, so it's probably a legal and ethical consideration if MC will not be wholesale replicating the IMDb database.

I agree though, that it would be nice to have a one stop shop for movies and movie discussions. I think the only way for that to happen on MC is if people rebuild the database from scratch. Easier to just link to IMDb. :)

Is there NO WAY to search these boards?

There's a search bar at the top of all MC pages if you're visiting the site on a desktop. On mobile, there's a white magnifying glass at the top of the page, to the right of the "MC" movie ticket stub, that you can tap on to pull up the search bar. Does that help, or do you mean something else?

Maybe I'm on the wrong sort of computer but I meant searching for subjects in the forums by keyword, thanks.

Ah, I misunderstood. TexasJack's tip is the best way to get what you're looking for right now. I agree it'd be terrific to have a search feature that can return every instance of a search term, from throughout MovieChat, organized by forum.

(Google use to offer a "site search" feature for websites to use for their sites, but Google has discontinued it since this past April, so this kind of feature would have to be custom built, now, I believe.)

I'm not annoyed with this though

This forum does not have signatures on new posts, but jim did import all the posts from the old IMDB so those archived posts still have their signatures.
That's why it looks a lot like the old one, because all the old content is imported from the priginal imdb.
