Do you think Imdb lost much traffic since they dropped the board?

I imagine they were probably paying too much for the increased bandwidth and moderating the forums, and I guess that traffic was more expensive than any ad revenue that it would generate.

Are people still posting there? I thought the whole posting thing was gone

I personally don't go there as often. I will go there to check to see what other movies "whoever it may be" were in if I can't think of it. I used to go straight there after almost every movie I watched to see what other people were saying and what other people thought. So definitely lost a lot of traffic from me, but I'm just one person.

I would love to know how many actual posters were active on the boards before they shut them down, just out of curiosity's sake.

Also I think there is a web site (although I'm not sure what it is) that tells the trends in traffic over periods of time for big websites like theirs.

Oh yes! I never go there or Amazon. Jeff Bezos made a costly mistake when he abolished the message boards. I hope he rots in hell.

I found the info on episodes, their dates, trivia, actor info etc etc etc basically everything has dropped significantly. I don't use it anymore as a resource either. It's becoming more outdated and inaccurate every day. They are trying to fill the gap with fan mades and rehashed old news but it's a sinking ship.

I can honestly say that I don't go there to IMDb as often as I use to.
The message boards were the big draw. I only go there once in a while. I like to check reviews...
Sometimes it is just to look at actors and their filmography.
It isn't the same any longer. I really don't care though.....

Olivergbyrne, I can only hope that you will join in on the discussions. I also have hope that you will help in the growth of this site. The way to do that is to spread the word! We finally have a great movie message board site that is actually similar to IMDb.

It's only my guess, but I think it's quite possible IMDb has seen a drop in traffic since the boards closed.

One of the reasons I say this is because people aren't even contributing as much information to the factual pages anymore, as they once did.

I still sometimes consult the information page of a movie there, to find out things like shooting location, cast list, etc.

I'm lately running into more and more movies where some of this info is actually missing.

Since it was mostly contributor reliant -- and contributors were often the same people who actually actively posted on the boards too -- it looks a lot like they've taken their helpfulness elsewhere. Many did say this is what they would do.

IMDb relied on its users to build the "database" in its own name. When it shat all over those same users, yet still expected them to supply data, it was a shitty move.
