Hope someone can help me close out my Hotmail accounts. I had two extra accounts that I had set up for IMDb to send me notifications if anyone responded to my posts. Now that the message boards are gone I want to close them out. Do any of you know how to close a Hotmail account?

Some hosts let you request closure, but it doesn't happen immediately. Even if not requested for closure, hosts will typically put an account into suspension after 6 months or a year with no login, and the account won't receive anymore emails unless it's logged into again.
Then they'll let it sit like that for the same length of time, 6 months or a year, before it's deleted. Realistically, there's nothing you need to do. They'll be gone eventually.

shareYou're welcome. I have a hotmail account, and I rarely ever use it anymore, but I'll probably keep it as a backup. It was my first ever email account, so it's probably more for sentimental value than anything else ๐

shareYep, way back in 1999. I was getting ready to enter a small technical college, and had never before even switched on a computer (I was a late adopter). But I needed both a computer and an email account. So I built a dual Celeron PC, and we transfered our school work with those little 3.5โ floppyโs.
And there was no Facebook, Twitter, or selfies.

Pre-Y2K, it was all BonziBuddy and desks with sliding drawers for keyboards. The PC was just getting acquainted with the household and Dermot O'Leary would say that "Anoraks" could send the Big Breakfast an email instead of a self addressed and stamped postcard to guess when Paula Yates would top herself and where Mark Lamarr would be showing up next.
Fun times but couldn't beat Rapido, The James Whale show, After Dark, The Word or God's Gift.
Anyways...dial-up was a pain in the backside I can tell you!

I think all the kids these days use something called Dischord, I don't know much about it myself but it's based on the framework of mIRC Daisy.

I know a couple sites I'm on have irc chat rooms, but I never use them, so don't know how popular they are. I think they are more like help rooms or something like that.

And remember how hard it was to send photos to people online? Well if you were like me and had no scanner.. seems like an eternity ago now!
Scanning my photos was a mammoth task but one I'm glad I'd done.
I did have a webcam back then though and so could take immediate photos should the matter ever arise where I should need to share my image.
Thankfully that's not something I've done in over 2 decades.
The difference between sharing photos and information back then as compared to now though is crazy.
Yeah I had no webcam until I got my first laptop and had to use someone else's scanner back then. ;)
Since the Internet has gotten into the hands of the hoi polloi it is dangerous to use anything of your own self openly for all to see.
Early adopters were pretty cool about everything, these days with everyone having access - not so much.
I'm not even sure if scanners are sold any more due to people all having Smartphones.
I guess a younger generation can't remember a time before sharing everything.
Webcams have always scared me,whether that's justified or not I don't know.
I still have a scanner which I've used to scan old photos recently for a pal.It and it's printer friend are temperamental buggers. I have to buy dinner and drinks before I get anything out of them.

I didn't like ICQ either Dazed, it was the eh-oh noise it made when people sent a message which bothered me. Sure you could change it and all but I just thought the whole thing was stupid.

After Dark was indeed the one where people got pissed around a table talking about whatever the topic(s) of the week were - awesome stuff which could only be seen with YouTube Hangouts these days.
The modem dial-up noise...I still miss the Spectrum ZX loading up noise - now that was a thing of beauty!
Had to jump in here, I loved ICQ. I remember there was a function where the other person could see as you were typing. I didn't know that. So this person watching as i perfected what I wanted to reply. I was so embarassed.
And as silly as it sounds the dial up noise used to excite me, I just could not wait to get on the internet.
I didn't like ICQ for more backend reasons. People used to promote bots stating opinions en masse with them and they were a real pain the the rear for moderating and keeping an eye on.
Thankfully we got that all sorted out but then Twitter and third world countries showed up to present a new problem in the same regard.

Commodore 64 users were my enemy Dazed. I don't know if you remember GalahadFairLight from the old Prometheus boards but he apparently was some sort of hacker from back in the day and, despite his Commodore origins, taught me a bit about the Atari ST and its rival the Amiga during our time on IMDb.
So I suppose you lot are alright in a pinch ;)
I was going to include text messaging in that list as well, until I discovered that Nokia had the first GSM phone that allowed SMS messaging going all the way back to 1993. So we can blame it all on the Finns! ๐

My first mobile phone was a Motorola, it was huge but I rather liked it.I still have a Moto phone now which I've had for about 3 Years and does everything I need it to.I'm not jumping on the iPhone bandwagon!
