When you pay a bill

You have a bill due at the first of month. Is it likely you will pay it days earlier since you have the money or wait to pay on 1-5 during the grace period of five days? We do our best to earlier so we 'know' we won't be. delinquent.

Well,if I have the money for it,I pay it early.

It depends. Since going through a hardship, this is what I had to do and it depends on the bill.

For utilities, I let them go to about 29 days late. The late charge is typically $1-$2 (it will not kill you to pay it late).

For credit cards, always pay them before or on the dates they are due (writing about minimum payments, if you cannot afford paying it in full). These are the worst as everyone knows about those hefty finance charges, interest, etc.

For the rest of the bills, I would look to see how much of a late fee you will be charged if you do not pay on time. For me, it goes in this order.

Cell phone bill. If I do not pay this on time, it is a whopping $7-8 late charge.
Internet. It is about a $6 late charge
Sewage. It is about a $2 late charge but since it is from the city government, they also tack on interest for everyday it is late.

Car insurance. Since one of my part times gives me mileage reimbursement, I try to pay that one in full. Faster you pay it off, the faster you can go the rest of the five months without having to worry about it.

If I have any money in excess, I throw it on my credit cards (obviously if I cannot pay them all in full if they are high amounts).

I just pay as soon as I get the bill, I just don't like having a pile of bills laying around and having to keep track of the due date. I just want to get it over with.

Getting it over with. Yep me too.

I know people say "but you could be earning interest".
Most of my bills are under 200$ so the interest on 1 or 2 hundred bucks for only a week longer in my account is just pennies.. it's not worth the hassle.

I pay it as soon as it's due. For credit cards and such, I'll be checking around "that time" to catch when it rolls over so I can make the next payment as early as possible.

The only thing I have due on the first of the month is rent, so that one gets taken care of on time instead of early.

I know exactly what you mean,Frogarama😉

Usually a few days earlier, with most.

My cell phone carrier is a pain to pay, and I'm never certain when it's due. I'd put it on autopay, but have heard from too many people their customer service is next to non-existent, and don't want a hard time taking it off autopay, should I change carriers.

I'd like to get into the habit of paying most of them as soon as I receive the bills, or they become payable. So far, making sure I pay them all before they're delinquent is the best I've done.
