Rocky the Flying Squirrel Is Dead 😒

I just saw that famed voice actress June Foray, who did Rocky's (Rocket J. Squirrel) voice and the voice of many other animated characters, died 2 hours ago at the age of 99! God love her. Rocky and Bullwinkle was 'way ahead of its time, with really
sharp and witty writing that worked for kids AND adults. RIP, June.

"Hokey Smoke, Bullwinkle!"

I was just looking at her Bio. WOW. Over 300 credits on her resume. She started in 1943 and continued
working up until a few years ago.
Looks she also did voices in shows like Gilligan, Twilight Zone, Little House and many more.
I looked at what she did and I have seen quite a bit of her work. Watched it and never knew it was her.
Rocky and Bullwinkle was a favorite growing up.
What a wonderful career. She must have been something special to last in the business that long.
RIP indeed.
Well done RK.

Truly was a living legend.

I mean, this was the show that also gave us Boris Badinoff and Natasha Fatale, the Soviet spies (plus their Fearless Leader!), who were always "making big trouble for moose and squirrel," and those wonderful Fractured Fairytales! Truly legendary.

reply

I loved Fractured Fairytales! It was my absolute favorite. Her voice was so distinctive and perfect for that cartoon. We're lucky to have had a talent like hers.

Wow! i grew up watching Rocky & Bullwinkle she lived her life

Sorry to hear of her passing, but it’s good to see that she had such a long and productive life. I remember this cartoon from when I was just a kid, but I don’t think that I’ve seen it since. I wasn’t aware that Rocky was a girl until years later, and the cold war symbolism went over my head at the time. It was one of my favorites.

We only more recently lost Judy Jetson (Janet Waldo) from another one of my favorite cartoons, and who lived to be nearly the same age as Ms Foray.

I just remembered that this was all masteminded by a fellow named Jay Ward. What visionary.

reply

Aw, that's too bad. I didn't know her name before now, or that her work was so prolific. RIP, June.

I didn't realize that she was the voice of Rocky. That was one of my favorite animated characters!
i will always remember her as Talky Tina in a particularly disturbing episode of The Twilight Zone.

Cool bit of trivia, I did not know that. I actually only recently saw this very episode. I did not recognize a young Telly Savalas as the same person that would go on to play Kojak a mere decade or so later.

It would be very handy to have your very own evil possessed doll to take care of one’s enemies πŸ˜€
