Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams?

I would agree as Goldsmith has produced more varied material. Williams had the higher profile being connected with Star Wars and such.

I'd say Williams. Goldsmith (RIP) is more of an emotional "Exactly what's needed" type of composer. Williams, however, makes such prominent themes that they are often a mini-movie unto themselves. Not too many people walk around whistling Goldsmith themes. But even my 4 year old can pick out ET, Star Wars, Superman if I just start whistling them. For me it's always been John Wiliams and Basil Poledouris (RIP). Those two are masters at what they can offer movie.

Tough call but if I had to choose I'd go with Williams.
