I think it's stupid that the global internet even has national restrictions for entertainment purposes. The Internet was never supposed to be something stuck behind a national border.

I couldn't agree more

reply

Well some countries value other things above entertainment, such as...authoritarianism.

The Internet came from ARPANET which was a project by the U.S. Department of Defense, part of the military. Of course it has all the political and national border issues implications.

The entertainment side of the Internet is actually not even the primary purpose.

While I agree that today's Internet SHOULD not be stuck behind anything, it is not stupid if we understand how those limitations came to fuition.

I don't think it's the Internet that has the restrictions (in this case at least), but the productions that these services offer are still subject to copyright and distribution laws/regulations. If I remember correctly, when Netflix first launched here, they couldn't include House of Cards in their catalogue (their own production), because another company already had the distribution rights for it.

But I agree, it is stupid, and it needs to be updated for the modern times 'cause noone's waiting months and months for something to be released localy (if it's even released).

I would love to see a streaming service which offered movies the same time as theaters - a service I would pay for and I think it is only a matter of time.

All I want is a rich enough catalogue, with proper subtitles, that's worth paying for. But you go on Amazon Video's website and everything's in English. How is that a good business model for expanding your company internationaly? Or a good service that you're providing?

Anyway, I'm sure someone's already working on streaming movies that are in theaters (they're already on the torrent sites anyway, so you might as well release them legally).
