Go to early shows and after the first movie is over you see at least one more movie for free. Buy some snacks at the dollar store before you go so you don't get too hungry.
shareBut you cannot really carry anything into the movie theater. Unless you had jeans with large enough pockets and no one checked you at the entrance, could you get away with it. If you are a gal, you could definitely fit outside snacks or food into your purse (and this is another good reason to have a girlfriend, mom, or sister with you).

shareUnless you're a hipster and wear those ridiculous super tight jeans there shouldn't be a problem. Dress for the movie need be. Even shorts with cargo pockets can provide snacks or even sandwiches etc... Of course if you want to make sure you won't get caught then go to a theater with lots of black employees. You can walk in with a buffet and they won't say anything.
shareSomeone is going to notice the bulge in your pockets (notice I did not say front) and they may ask. Now days, with movie theater shootings and many people in enclosed spaces, everything must be scrutinized.

They often can't be bothered to even check tickets much less pockets. Of course if you're in a blue state you will probably have to drive for hours to find a theater that isn't mostly white folks.
It's probably best to just pay since you are obviously nervous.
Yes, they want to be paid $15/hr. Even in the airports, security is lax because of certain ethnic groups doing the TSAing.
