Stainless Steel

If stainless steel knives are stainless then why do I have a stain on one of my stainless steel knives?

reply

Because it's bootleg stainless steel?

reply

That is possible, I will check for forgery marks.

reply

Stainless means it won't rust. Is the stain on it brown or white?

reply

Its a brown stain. Does it come off?

Came across this a little while ago:

Pour a little baking soda over the stain if still noticeable, followed by a small amount of vinegar, which will bubble up. Rub the mixture first with a soft cloth, then with a plastic scrub pad if the cloth doesn't remove the discoloration. Follow the grain of the steel as you scrub to avoid scratching the surface. Wipe the surface with a clean damp paper towel, following the grain of the steel.

But yeah, stainless actually does rust. I have a stainless steel firearm that developed rust over time. It didn’t rust real bad as it would have with ordinary blued steel, but it did develop a few spots here and there.

I looked up the composition of stainless steel, and it’s said to have a Chromium content of 10.5% or greater. But I wonder if some of the stuff that you’re getting these days from overseas has a lower content.

Yeah, try cleaning it ah ha ha ha!! 😂😂😉😉😝😝😜😜

Lol, yeah. It's stainless steel, not stainproof steel.

"Despite its name, stainless steel can and does stain. So first and foremost, for clean stainless steel surfaces, these are products and techniques to avoid: ... – DON'T use steel wool, steel brushes, or highly abrasive scrubbing pads—these can cause scratches or leave a residue of small particles that may rust."

It's sold without any stains. What you do with it after you buy it is your own business.
