Question on ethics

I know of a family of which the older generation made its money by plenty of dirty dealing. The current middle age generation wonders why there is so much animosity towards that family at least in public. Nothing will ever happen on the dirty dealing in terms of going to court. Just wondering how other people would react if confronted with such people. Some here say why worry about it as a lot of the misdeeds happened many years ago. Those who were directly impacted by the same misdeeds in more than a few instances have suffered financial setbacks for many years. The question is how would you react to the offending family in public or in private? Would this change your interpretation on certain laws?

Does anyone in the family wear leather pants? :-) Sorry; couldn't resist.

Lots of rich families.people made their money via dirty dealing. How one reacts to them depends on how dirty the dealing was, or how much one was directly impacyted.

This goes beyond the classic cheating the old widow but that allegedly happened too. To have done what they did they must have paid the employees of some of the businesses some kind of bribe or payola to screw their respective employers. They also allegedly hurt people in ways other than financial. Anyways, you are thrust into close social contact with the younger generation. How do you handle it? They have to know that things do not add up in terms of making all the wealth legitimately.

reply

Again, depends if the younger generation are elitist rich a-holes or decent people....

For the purposes of discussion and of reality there are some of each but mostly jerks. Further, there is no cover explanation that comes close to a satisfactory explanation as to how they got their money. Lastly, for the sake of discussion let's assume that you are one of the affected families by their misdeeds. You see reminders everyday about the setback your family suffered.

Then I'd likely totally ignore them for starters

If you are in the U.S., we have a president that made HIS money through dirty dealing. If that is what the world has come to, I am sure any family scenario is barely a ripple.

Trump has the kind of wealth to insulate his family from the public for the most part. People who are like the family I am talking about the ability to insulate becomes much more problematic. It's much harder to separate the "business"(s) from the community. Further, it does not diminish the emotion in the least for those who have strong connections one way or the other. Either your name is dragged endlessly through the mud or at the other end of the spectrum you can not think of the family in question with out shaking in anger as far as what they did to you or somebody closely connected to you.

And the Kennedys didn't? They didn't come much dirtier than the Kennedys. I wonder what Mary Jo Kopechne would think. She was unavailable for comment.

Let's throw Nixon in there too!

Yep! "I am not a crook!" Nixon.
