Bad sound in movies.

Is it just me or are more and more movies suffering from inaudible dialogue? The spoken words are so low, and then when either the sound effects or the music kick in... BAM! It's so loud. I watch a lot of classic film and it's not an issue (as long as it's remastered). But for new movies, it seems like the mixing is trying too hard to make it surround sound and it's actually a deterrent to the audio.

And what makes it worse is that, if I watch it on TV, computer, Blu-Ray, Netflix, the problem always seems to be there.

It's not only you. They're making the effects louder, because it's supposed to be more exciting, I think. But when the effect is so loud, even if the dialogue is at normal volume, you'll have to adjust it. So you end up not hearing what people say. The different types of speakers probably also play a part in it. And if the people doing the sound mixing aren't that good at their job... Well, goodbye ears!

That's my understanding of it at least.
