MovieChat Forums > General Discussion > Daniel Day-Lewis quits acting

Again?

What's that now...3 times this year he's done this?

reply

So he acts like he's quitting acting?

reply

I can't trust a thing the man says. 3 Oscars under his belt, you just can't take a man like that at face value.

His own son didn't even know he was an actor until he picked up his third Oscar. He thought he was a carpenter!

reply

I don't really care, but it sounds like he's doing a Joaquin Phoenix.

😎

reply

I'll wait for Day-Lewis debut rap album.

reply

LOL, kamen!

😎

reply

Couldn't care less,sorry.

reply

I'm glad. I didn't appreciate the fact that he was a Brit who made history by winning three Academy Awards (an American awards show). I'm gonna be even more kissed off if he tries for another Oscar nomination for his last project this year.

reply

πŸ˜‚
You care about who wins an Oscar?

reply

Have you forgotten that this is a site for movie buffs and not just for idle discussions on a general message board?

reply

You didn't answer my question.

reply

The answer is obvious.

reply

I didn't realise the Oscars were just for Americans.

an American awards show

Is that correct? Can any Americans confirm this?

reply

It's a valid question. And the debate on whether the subjective opinions of a group of, I assume, predominantly older male Americans on awarding film, in an in-industry event, matter, has been raging for quite some time now.

Also, how many American actors have won a BAFTA? Should the Brits be miffed about that?

reply

What Brits do is their business. I don't care how many Americans have won a BAFTA. Sorry.

reply

What Brits do is their business.

The same can be said for the members of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Unless you're a member?

reply

1. Who cares if he's a Brit? 2. Nicholson has three Oscars (1 in supporting) 3. Katherine Hepburn has 4 as well.

reply

DDL is the only make actor in Academy Award history to have won 3 Oscars for playing the lead role in a film. That's the difference. I don't have an issue with Kate Hepburn because she's an American actress.

reply

Yeah, but who cares? I mean, The Beatles biggest sales were in the US even though they were from England.

reply

Never been a fan.

reply

Yeah, me too. He may be a great actor (according to Academy Awards) but he looks so generic along with Matthew McConaughey.

reply

watching Matthew McConaughey act, is like sitting at a bar drinking sand, same with DDL

reply

Lol. At least he's good in Sing. πŸ˜†

How these two actors keep landing jobs is a mystery to me, while real iconic faces like Nicholas Cage has to practically rummaging dumpsters for terrible roles in low-budget movies.

reply

yep.

reply

If you don't like the legend that is Daniel Day-Lewis, that is fine. But you dare say his name in comparison of Matthew McConaughey, makes it extremely blasphemous and I can't allow it.

reply

Is he doing this to prepare for a role?

reply

I am happy to see that one of the greatest actors of all time was not an american.

reply

I love it, too.

reply

I love him. He's one of my favorites and has been for a very long time. I try to see everything he's in, which isn't much and not nearly enough for me. I think he's a genius, innately talented. He picks such fine roles with the best directors. I will miss him if he retires.

reply

This topic would go great on his own damn page and not in general.
