While it's a certain source of amusement to watch a certain troll with 8 million socks get desperate and start whining every few days, and while it can be even more amusing to keep responding to their BS, we should all simply ignore all the nonsensical gripe posts, and just let them peter out.
shareI'm glad you brought this up because I have a question about the ignore function. I've done it with a few users who seemed to be posting in a trolling way (nothing I wanted to read in any event). But when I put them on ignore, it did more than remove their posts -- it seemed to remove an entire subsection of a thread (anything following the original post) if they were participating within it.
I may not be describing that accurately, but now I'll go to a post which is, for example, about a current scii-fi film, and it only shows the original post, although it says there are 12 or more replies. I have trouble imagining I'd ignored every single other person who replied to the post.
Is there a different way I should be utilizing Ignore or is this just kinda how it is for now? (Thank you.)
You're right, when you ignore someone, the ignore feature hides from you not only the ignored person's posts, but all replies to The Ignored's posts.
Jim, MC's owner, had to throw the ignore feature together pretty quickly at the time. I hope he'll fix this problem so putting someone on your ignore list blocks only that person's posts. Also that you don't get any email alerts if The Ignored replies to one of your posts, and the ability to see and edit our ignore lists.
Thanks for the words of support Catbookss but these trolls' m.o. is to calmly act like they were the offended party. That's what makes them good is that they/he/she seem like they care about the principle of the issue but they simply want to argue. A normal poster generally will have 90% discussion about films and t.v. and maybe once in awhile voice an opinion about how the board is run... a troll or sock will tend to make a few relevant comments, start up a few threads... then soon after start questioning the course of the board and its rules or start arguing with people. This is obviously only a rough guideline... but a pattern that I've noticed so far. Your mileage may vary of course.

The claims of caring about principles are all too soon revealed as being transparent and illogical, so to me, that doesn't make them good at this.

Thank you for your replies. Ironically, I somehow "ignored" someone in the mix (possibly by accident) because I can't see the replies. I can on my phone though! Sigh. Hoisted by my own petard.

You can always log out or check on another device if you get curious. I get what you mean but it's much more peaceful without all those spammy threads.

shareYeah I hope he fixes it properly where you can block people from seeing your posts and you can see posts that reply to ignores. I also hope he allows you to reverse it later on. The trolls don't bother me that much as far as what they say... but they make it hard to find good things to which one can respond. My hope is that they get tired of trolling and actually decide to just participate regularly. I don't mind when they attack me so much as that they drive more timid people away. But yeah, it's mostly the spam element that makes me push ignore.
