Doubt

Do you ever doubt? How can you ever be fully sure of anything?

Don't believe anything for sure as there's no way of knowing it's absolutely correct.

Maintain an open mind.

Do you think donating money to charity is voluntary stupidity?

reply

You can't. Once you experience a hardship, you definitely learn that.

Not unless it is tax deductible. Then again, if it is like those $1.00 charities, I do them. I do know that $0.98 is going into someone's pocket though; however, it helps my karma.

reply

Do you think millionaires and billionaires should give away money to help the poor? Or would you say it's their money and they can do what they want with it?

reply

They definitely should be taxed higher.

reply

Have you ever given money to a person on ko-fi.com?

reply

kofi?

reply

The only time I would give money to someone on the internet is only if I know them in person.

I have never use that site. I only use paypal.

reply

For me it is,i know it's harsh, but every time that a person show me a picture with a sick kid and ask for some money for him,i know that my money goes in that man's pocket and not for that kid😒

I've had people tell me they think charities are a con. If you give money it goes to people who earned hundreds of thousands a year. By donating you are helping pay their wage. It doesn't help those it's suppose to. Even if it does, it doesn't benefit you to help others, so why do so?

You should make yourself your number one priority. Those you know and care for are more important than strangers. Donating money could cause people to become reliant on handouts instead of improving themselves.

reply

I think one needs to be careful to distinguish between sincere need and as you rightly point out, non profit and charity organizations that merely circumvent taxes and pay themselves. However, a lot of people use this as an excuse to never help at all... saying that everything is corrupt so I may as well do nothing. I suppose one has the right to never help anyone, but I think if one adopts this philosophy then they should take care to never accept any help either, as it would be hypocritical to do so... and would make you one of the most detestable types of human beings. If you don't trust big companies... it makes sense, but then make sure you volunteer or give money to homeless directly... something where you can see firsthand the benefits. I guess the bottom line is try to help somewhere... and not just rationalize how never to give at all.

reply

It might be better to spend money on things you need/want instead of donating. By spending money at places one helps to keep them in business and all those who work for them in a job. Where I work, if people didn't spend money there I would be out of a job. They help keep me in work. By spending money at the various places I spend money, I help to keep those who work there employed.

Doesn't spending money help the economy? I don't know what effect saving money has. It makes sense to save money for the future. If right now I were made redundant, sacked or had hours cut back, having money saved would help me. Instead of relying on benefits.

I earn a low wage and work part time. So that's one reason I don't have kids and won't have any. It wouldn't be possible for me to pay for them. As I am I get help with rent. I can't pay out for myself fully. Low wage, part time hours and a high cost of living.

reply

This advice isn't really directed at low wage people... probably for middle class and above. The key is that many low wage people become middle class and rich but never break out of that fearful, survival only state of mind. If you ever do live comfortably then you probably should try to help. Spending money at stores however, sounds more like a rationalization. Nothing wrong with it... but not really charity as you are getting something in return. Charity by definition is when you are giving something but don't.

I read about Peter Singer. Do you think the richer have a moral obligation to help the poor?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Singer

reply

I have to go for awhile... but the short answer is yes. 8 people have as much wealth than the bottom 3.5 billion and they have kept it by convincing the masses that the poor are lazy and deserve to be living the way they do. The general strategy of the wealthy is to turn the poor against each other... so they are too busy fighting with each other to notice actually who has the money. Because they control the media... it's easy to perpetuate this narrative. Most educated people understand this, but the illiterate are easily manipulated by talk shows and sensational news outlets to believe otherwise.

I donate food to our local food pantry. That's a good way to donate to charity and know that you are helping people in need.
Another thing that my husband and I do is to give cat/dog food to our local animal shelter. We also bring in kitty litter. Worn towels are also welcome there. They make useful pet pads. All of our aluminum cans go to the shelter as well. They turn those in for the money that helps to keep the shelter going.
There are so many ways to help people out. Giving your time is the very best way to do that.
If you feel that donating money is voluntary stupidity then be charitable in other ways. People do appreciate acts of kindness. You also forget any troubles you may have when you discover that there are people with bigger troubles.

reply

I think instead of giving money to a charity, because they could be a con. Maybe it's better to give money directly to people who need help. Do you think that would be better?

I think it makes to sense to consider people you know to be more important than strangers.

reply

Well, if you know people who need help, by all means, give them a helping hand.
As I have said though, money isn't always the thing to donate. Getting involved in small ways in your community is also a way to help others.
It doesn't have to be money. Food pantrys need food donations to help out people on low incomes.

Donating your time is a wonderful way to help others. Look into volunteering your time at a hospital or an old age home.
I do a great deal of volunteering and donating at our animal shelter because I love animals and these places need our help so badly.

Money isn't always the answer and you may be right. A number of these charitys are cons.

What do you know about doxxing?

On another site someone told me they know my real name, date of birth, address. They sent it via PM.

reply

What is doxxing? I'm afraid I don't even know what that means.

reply

Making public someone's personal info.

They told me they will tell others my personal info.

I don't know how they found out.

reply

Report it to the administrator of that site.

reply

I wonder If they somehow got my IP Address?

I don't think it should give an exact location.

reply

Beats me......
Why would they be all that interested? They have something against you?

reply

They could just be screwing with you. If you know that they troll, they may just be trying to mess with your head, but I'd still report it.

reply

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

These are the things that you can't put a price tag on. These are the things
money can't buy.
These are the things I hope to remember when it's my time.
These are the things that make me appreciate my life every day

I like that. Giving of yourself can be the biggest donation of all.
