Good they deserve it.

Awful. It's hackers like these that will just make them crack down harder on everyone else. These types of breaches will just result in negative publicity and challenge the notion of a free and open internet.

Can you imagine the level of hysteria this would have caused for Netflix executives if this had been their jewel in the crown Stranger Things season 2?

If you rob a bank, you probably will do hard time in a federal prison... if you commit cybertheft people hardly regard it as a crime. Yet billions more are stolen electronically than in person. We need to get with the twenty first century and start focusing our resources towards the new paradigm. Just because people are too dumb to understand cyber crime doesn't mean it doesn't have a profoundly negative effect on the economy.

The bad part is that the majority of hackers are in a foreign country where we cannot prosecute them and the local governments don't care about them.

That is probably true, but I don't think many people care stateside either.

People are funny... if you took five dollars out of their wallet they'd throw a fit, but that same person wouldn't think twice of downloading thousands of dollars of some artist's music or films on their hard drive.

I blame the government for simply not caring... they know as long as the public can steal intellectual property... they will stay calm and pacified while the wealthy continue to consolidate more and more wealth. People don't notice how poor they are if they can consume an endless supply of other people's property.
