Movie-Watching Ever Feel Like a Chore?

I belong to so many movie groups, but I think had I never joined a thing, I might enjoy movies more, instead of wondering how to review, score, etc... We do a lot of recommendations (on another site), and so there's always expectations, and after you become "online friends" for a while, it's hard to say a movie they love so much isn't to your tastes.. Self-consciousness of many movie groups..... I also think "I could have watched a movie just in the time I was online typing this...."

I actually feel guilty going a day without watching a movie (just at the moment), but I didn't fall asleep til about 4am, still woke up at 8am... A great movie experience is such an amazing feeling, I know I should do it as much as I can to have a better chance to achieve momentary ecstasy. Lately I've been watching 3-4 movies, but going with the same directors, most recently, Ken Loach, Mike Leigh, Fassbinder... still have a handful left in their discography, and then a few I can't find...

It only feels like a chore, if you have no other reason not to watch them. Then again, I always wonder if many people on this site are retired. The only time I watch movies is when I have downtime that I cannot fill with anything else. Of course, my traffic on IMDb and now here is when I have a background gig coming up or working on some kind of production assistant gig. IDK..for some reason, I feel like shows/movies gets me into the mindset, I need, when I get on set. Recently, I went through a hardship and movies are a way for me to just get away from the nauseating thoughts of what happened.

In actuality, movies really hit a huge high when the U.S. was at war in World WAR II and so you would figure that most people, who watch them, have some kind of hardship they are going through. If you have any kind of job or are studying, finding time to watch something is so tough.

Sometimes, especially if it's a really bad movie.

Yes...

The Matrix 3 and Transformers 3.

The Matrix sequels are probably the most underwhelming follow up ever made that many people pretends they never even exist.

So, what are you talking about? The Matrix 3? What's that?

reply

Lol what's that for sure. I did enjoy the action sequences in part 2 though. But it started to just get way too convoluted. 😡

If it's something that I've made my mind about seeing, because it's a classic or a well received film, etc., it can feel a bit like a school assignment, sometimes.

Or if it's a film that someone else picked (movie night, cinema), that I have no real interest in seeing.

It can be, especially if you make lists of films to watch. Also, if a friend tells you to watch a tv series and you have to watch several seasons to catch up it can feel very difficult, even if you like the show.

I think it's important to mix things up with other hobbies or activities. There are times where I've thought maybe I'm just sick of movies... then I'll take a break for awhile and come back later and afterwards I'll always start to enjoy them again.

Not for me, no. But, as you belong to many movie groups, and part of that is making a lot of recommendations and writing reviews, I can understand why you'd feel that way.

I only watch films for my own pleasure, but even so sometimes I'll go to a board of a film or show that I loved or didn't like, and see a preponderance of threads and posts with an opposing view. Often I just leave. No point in getting into it, more so when most love it. I'm not into pissing on people's Cheerios.

even though i have never done the 'wtch a movie a day' thing I know what you mean, because of this i'm very restrictive on what movies I watch so when I watch a movie I know it will be something i'll love

Same.. I always going in thinking I'm going to watch a fine or at least an important movie... Usually, I pick a director who did at least one great movie, and follow everything they did.... Some people take it personal (on the various sites), as if you are criticizing them instead of the movie.. I once made a comment of not grading or reviewing, and people asked why, and I just kept going at it, thinking maybe I could save someone time with a bad movie.. I also notice when I (or others) mention a great movie, it's sometimes a reminder for the public, or a movie they think they'd like from associations.. If I know people anywhere who have good taste, and recommend me, I'll watch it.
