Why do people throw away a sure thing for a maybe?

Michelle Branch started off as a popular pop singer. With hit singles & albums. Awards, fame, fans etc. But then she went country and now she just randomly released a rock album. She lost most of her fans and decidedly fame.

I just don't get it why leave pop when you were on top of the game? Really made no sense to me. She can sing, write songs, and also can make a mean music video. I feel like she threw it all away.

Similarly actors leave TV shows to become more famous. Like the TV show Teen Wolf just about 90% of the cast just left.....off a popular show. ??? And most of them failed imo. Not only that but the show was so crippled from all the sudden actors dropping out.

Success in pop music is a fleeting thing anyway, so she might have figured that it was worth the risk to branch out. (No pun intended, I swear.)

It's not like she quit a great, very well-paying job to start a risky business. Not that I know anyone who did that or anything 🙄

I think a country career is more stable than a pop career... not an expert on country music, but it seems that way.

Greed.

Think about it. Why do good businesses, almost mom and pop (but really high rolling mom and pops with good ethics) agree to being bought out by horrible businesses? Money.
